Pediatric dentistry (formerly pedodontics in American English or pedodontics in Commonwealth English) is the branch of dental speciality that focuses on and deals with the dental treatment of infants, children, and young adults from birth through adolescence. It is suggested that a dental visit must be taken within six months after the first tooth of the child or by a child's first birthday. The early oral examination helps in the detection of the early stages of tooth decaying. One of the primary objectives is tooth decay prevention. Pedodontics work not only with the teeth, but pediatric dentists also deal with the gums, throat muscles and nervous system of the head, jaw and neck, tongue, and salivary glands. They do this to check for pathology and other flaws.
Early detection is essential to maintain oral health, change the wrong habits, and treat as needed and as simply as possible.
